“Tony Awards: ‘The Lost Boys’ & ‘Schmigadoon!’ Lead with 12 Nominations Each

The stage productions “The Lost Boys” and “Schmigadoon!” secured a remarkable 12 Tony Award nominations each, with veteran actress June Squibb, at 96 years old, becoming the oldest Tony-nominated actor. Additionally, actor Danny Burstein made history as the most-nominated male actor in Tony Awards history.

Following closely behind were the revival of “Ragtime” with 11 nominations and “Death of a Salesman” starring Nathan Lane, which received nine nods. A total of 24 shows received nominations in the 26 Tony Award categories, including unique adaptations like “Cats: The Jellicle Ball” and a revival of “Chess.”

Competing for the title of best new musical are productions like “Titanique,” a comedic take on the movie “Titanic,” and “Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York),” a romantic comedy set in New York City. In the best new play category, nominees include “Giant,” “Liberation,” “The Balusters,” and “Little Bear Ridge Road.”

June Squibb made history as the oldest Tony-nominated actor for her role in “Marjorie Prime,” surpassing the previous record held by Lois Smith. Danny Burstein also set a new record as the most-nominated male actor in Tony history with nine nominations. Notable mentions include Kelli O’Hara and Daniel Radcliffe, who received nominations for their outstanding performances.

Actors John Lithgow and Rose Byrne received nominations in various categories, with Lithgow vying for his third Tony Award. The best play revival category features acclaimed works like “Every Brilliant Thing,” “Oedipus,” and “Fallen Angels.”

The Tony Awards ceremony is set for June 7 at Radio City Music Hall, hosted by Pink and broadcast live on CBS and Paramount+. Last year’s show drew a substantial audience, signaling the continued popularity and appeal of the prestigious awards event.
