Ontario Premier Doug Ford shared an incident where he confronted a shoplifter at a Home Depot store during the summer, emphasizing the need for stronger bail regulations due to increased criminal audacity. Speaking at the Empire Club in Toronto, Ford recounted how he disregarded his security detail to purchase plants for his cottage in preparation for a visit from Prime Minister Mark Carney.
According to Ford, a man exited the store with two backpacks while being followed by security personnel suspecting him of theft. However, the guards refrained from taking action as per their instructions. Taking matters into his own hands, Ford approached the individual, demanded to inspect his bags, and even threatened physical force if necessary. The shoplifter eventually complied, revealing a stolen saw blade.
During a fireside chat, Ford recounted his words to the individual, warning of severe consequences if he repeated his actions. The Premier asserted that such actions were necessary in handling such situations effectively.
