Alanis Morissette has taken legal action against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a deliberate scheme to blackmail the singer for drug trafficking unless she agreed to an extensive contract. The lawsuit, filed in California and obtained by CBC News, alleges that Keren Urinov threatened to report Morissette to British authorities for drug trafficking unless she hired her as a tour director for 15 years and provided substantial compensation.
Morissette is suing Urinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, stating that she will not be coerced into giving her blackmailer a significant payout. The singer pursued legal action to expose Urinov’s scheme and hold her accountable.
Urinov, who previously worked for Live Nation’s Israeli operations, was hired as a temporary tour manager for Morissette’s world tour in 2025. An incident at the airport during a trip from the UK to Spain led to Urinov’s arrest after authorities found drugs in her possession. Despite being released, Urinov allegedly attempted to extort Morissette through threatening letters after the tour ended.
The lawsuit details various reasons why Morissette found Urinov unfit as a tour manager, including questionable financial decisions and dishonesty about her past criminal activities. Morissette states that she had no choice but to sue Urinov to prevent working with an incompetent blackmailer for the next 15 years or paying her under duress.
Morissette is requesting a trial by jury in this case. CBC News has contacted Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comment but has not received a response yet.
