Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump later this month to discuss the progress of Trump’s Gaza initiative. Speaking at a press conference alongside German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Netanyahu highlighted the imminent second phase of the plan aimed at fostering peace and potentially ending the rule of Palestinian militant group Hamas in the region.
Ongoing negotiations are focusing on the subsequent steps of Trump’s strategy to resolve the two-year conflict in Gaza. The proposed plan entails the liberation of Israeli captives, the establishment of an interim technocratic Palestinian administration in Gaza overseen by an international “board of peace,” and supported by an international security presence.
“I am scheduled to engage in crucial discussions by the end of the month to ensure the successful implementation of the second phase,” Netanyahu emphasized. The completion of the initial phase of Trump’s plan is also on the horizon.
While attacks have somewhat decreased following the commencement of the Gaza ceasefire on October 10, sporadic incidents persist. Notable progress has been made as Hamas has released all but one of the remaining hostages, along with 27 bodies, in exchange for approximately 2,000 Palestinian detainees and prisoners.
Overall, efforts towards peace and stability in Gaza continue to evolve under the leadership of Netanyahu and Trump, with hopes for a lasting resolution to the conflict.
