Two sets of Canadian pairs hold medal positions following the short program on Friday at Skate Canada International, part of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating event in Saskatoon. Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps are currently in second place with a score of 73.03, while Lia Pereira and Trennt Michaud are in third place with a score of 70.66.
Deschamps expressed his delight in performing in front of an enthusiastic crowd at home, emphasizing the positive experience. Stellato-Dudek noted that while some aspects of their routine were improved compared to their previous performance in France, they faced challenges on certain elements. The pair acknowledged the need to review their routine before making a full assessment.
Pereira and Michaud achieved a personal best in the short program, showcasing their training efforts on home ice. Pereira expressed their excitement about delivering one of their best performances in the short program and their joy in presenting a program they deeply cherish.
Germany’s Minerva Fabienne Hase and Nikita Volodin lead the pairs competition with a total score of 77.53 after the short program. On the other hand, Canadians Kelly Ann Laurin and Loucas Ethier will enter the free program in sixth place with a score of 59.93.
In the women’s event, Japan’s Mone Chiba leads with a score of 72.29, followed closely by American Isabeau Levito in second place with 71.80 points. Sara-Maude Dupuis stands as the top Canadian in eighth place, earning 60.41 points.
