In St-Jerome, Quebec, a three-day hearing has commenced where Nathalie Sinclair-Desgagné is disputing the outcome in the Terrebonne riding, situated north of Montreal. The legal challenge was prompted by a resident who disclosed that her special ballot, cast for the Bloc, was rejected due to an address error on the envelope provided by Elections Canada.
During the April 28 election, incumbent MP Sinclair-Desgagné was narrowly defeated by Liberal candidate Tatiana Auguste. Lawyer Stephane Chatigny argues that the voter’s rights under the Charter were infringed as her ballot was not included in the tally, advocating for a fresh election in the constituency. Chatigny further suggests that other voters might have encountered similar issues, as evidenced by 16 special ballots that were not returned by the stipulated deadline.
