A tentative contract agreement has been reached for 25,000 health-science professionals in British Columbia by the Health Employers Association of B.C. and Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association. This deal aligns with the government’s balanced measures mandate for public-sector employee negotiations. The Finance Ministry mentioned that detailed information will be disclosed post a ratification vote. The agreement consists of wage hikes totaling 12% over four years, the maximum allowed by the mandate.
The union is urging its members to vote in favor of the deal, which not only includes wage increases but also enhancements to working conditions and measures to tackle professional shortages causing delays and cancellations for the public. Additionally, the agreement provides extra funding for addressing staffing challenges, investing in professional development, and reimbursing professional fees.
The union’s members encompass a variety of professionals like physiotherapists, pharmacists, psychologists, and social workers. Contract negotiations commenced almost a year ago, culminating in this agreement after both parties returned to the bargaining table for five days of discussions, including a 24-hour marathon session.
