In the late hours of September 30, Eboni Watson was startled by an unfamiliar buzzing noise. She witnessed a swarm of 10 drones and three Black Hawk helicopters dropping armed individuals onto nearby rooftops in Chicago’s South Shore area. On the ground, unmarked cars and rental vans disgorged agents, causing a commotion that drew residents outside, speculating about possible UFO sightings. However, the event turned out to be a federal immigration raid involving a significant number of agents.
One of the individuals caught up in the operation was Eleanor McMullen-Webster, who described a harrowing experience of being confronted by federal agents with guns drawn. She and her husband were handcuffed and directed into an apartment where Venezuelan migrants were being rounded up.
The raid at the South Shore apartment complex was part of a broader effort by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) known as Operation Midway Blitz. The initiative aimed to apprehend criminal illegal aliens in Illinois, particularly those who had been allowed to remain in the country due to sanctuary policies.
On that night, 37 immigrants, mainly Venezuelans, were arrested, although no charges have been filed against them yet.
