Alannah Keyser, a 21-year-old contestant, has been removed from the ongoing season of Love Island USA after a video resurfaced online showing her using a racial slur. The removal occurred shortly after the Miami college student made a bombshell entrance during the Casa Amor episodes on the reality dating series.
Upon Keyser’s arrival at the villa on June 21, a Snapchat video emerged where she appeared to be singing along to a song that contained the N-word, believed to be rapper Roddy Ricch’s track “The Box.” The show’s narrator, Iain Stirling, announced her sudden departure during Thursday night’s episode with the simple statement, “Alannah has left Casa Amor.”
Following her initial appearance on Season 8 and a potential connection with contestant Zach Georgiou, fans noticed a decrease in Keyser’s screen time, with some Reddit users observing her significant absence in Tuesday’s episode.
Keyser’s case is not an isolated incident for this season or the entire franchise. Prior to the premiere of Season 8, Vasana Montgomery was removed from the show after old clips surfaced of her using a racial slur. Similarly, in a previous season, Yulissa Escobar and Cierra Ortega were also ousted due to separate incidents involving the use of racial slurs, prompting apologies from both contestants.
The show has faced criticism for the treatment of its contestants online, with Love Island USA Season 7 also witnessing removals of participants due to similar controversies. CBC News attempted to contact Keyser for a response but did not receive a reply at the time of publication.
