“Canadian Tire Data Breach Exposes Customer Information”

Canadian Tire Corp. Ltd. has reported a data breach involving customer personal information stored in an e-commerce database. The compromised data pertains to individuals with e-commerce accounts at Canadian Tire and its affiliated brands, including SportChek, Mark’s/L’Equipeur, and Party City. Information exposed in the breach includes names, addresses, emails, birth years, encrypted passwords, and, in some instances, partial credit card details. Furthermore, approximately 150,000 account holders had their full birth dates compromised.

Canadian Tire has assured that the breached data is insufficient for unauthorized account access or purchases, and there was no impact on its in-store transaction capabilities. The company has addressed the identified vulnerability as of October 2 and is collaborating with cybersecurity experts to fortify its security measures.
