Ontario has allocated $75 million for the dissemination of a fresh anti-tariff commercial in the United States, specifically targeting Republican voters. The ad features a recording of former U.S. president Ronald Reagan from 1987 discussing the ineffectiveness of tariffs in the long run.
Premier Doug Ford emphasized that Reagan, his preferred American president, is easily recognizable to Republicans, ensuring that they grasp the message that tariffs will ultimately harm Americans. The premier’s office disclosed that the ad will debut this week on Newsmax and Bloomberg, with plans to extend to other major networks over the next two weeks, including Fox News, Fox Sports, NBC, CBS, CNBC, ESPN, and ABC, along with their local affiliates. Additionally, it will be broadcast on the local stations of Comcast, Spectrum, and Sinclair Group.
This initiative is not the initial wave of anti-tariff advertisements from the Ontario government to air in the U.S., as previous ads have highlighted the enduring relationship between Canada, Ontario, and their southern neighbor.
