Canadian Speed Skater Will Dandjinou Shines with Five Medals

Will Dandjinou excelled in speed skating over the weekend at the Short Track World Tour event in Montreal, securing a total of five medals for Team Canada. He showcased his prowess by clinching three medals on Sunday alone, boosting Canada’s performance at the competition.

Dandjinou, hailing from Sherbrooke, Que., started the day by contributing to a gold medal win in the 2,000-meter mixed relay race alongside Danaé Blais, Courtney Sarault, and Félix Roussel. The Canadian team seized the lead during the 10th lap and maintained their position to outperform South Korea and Poland at Maurice Richard Arena.

In the men’s 1,000-meter event, Dandjinou led a Canadian 1-2 finish with Steven Dubois, finishing ahead by a fraction of a second. The duo outpaced Hwang Daeheon of South Korea, who settled for bronze.

The weekend concluded with Dandjinou’s instrumental role in Canada’s victory in the men’s 5,000-meter relay, where he, along with Maxime Laoun, Dubois, and Roussel, secured another gold for the Canadian team. They triumphed over the Netherlands and Italy with a commendable time.

Canada wrapped up the competition with a total of 10 medals, accumulating 17 medals over the two-week event, including 10 gold, three silver, and four bronze. The team now leads in the Team Crystal Globe standings, with a significant points gap over the Korean White Tigers.

Dandjinou and Sarault currently lead the Crystal Globe standings in their respective categories, showcasing their dominance in the sport. The competition also witnessed Sarault’s remarkable performance in the women’s 500-meter event, where she secured a podium finish for the first time in the World Tour.

Looking ahead, Gdansk, Poland, is set to host the next stop on November 20-23, followed by Dordrecht, Netherlands. Additionally, Montreal will host the world championships in March, shortly after the Olympics. Live streaming schedules for upcoming events are available for viewing.
