“Meta and Microsoft Cut Jobs to Prioritize AI Initiatives”

Date:

Meta announced a reduction of approximately 8,000 employees, representing around 10% of its workforce, in a move to focus on enhancing artificial intelligence infrastructure and hiring more AI experts. The company stated that these layoffs aim to improve efficiency and support investments in various business areas. Reports suggest that Meta will not fill around 6,000 vacant positions.

This decision aligns with the industry trend of increased spending on artificial intelligence, leading to significant expenses for Meta in the coming years. Wedbush analyst Dan Ives viewed the job cuts positively, highlighting the company’s strategy of using AI tools to automate tasks, streamline operations, and reduce costs while maintaining productivity.

Microsoft also revealed its plan to offer voluntary buyouts to approximately 8,750 employees in the U.S., which accounts for seven percent of its American workforce. The tech giant’s move comes as it continues to expand its global network of data centers to support cloud computing services and AI systems.

Both Meta and Microsoft’s actions reflect the ongoing shifts within the tech industry towards optimizing operations and investing in cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence.
