Céline Dion unveiled a fresh single on Friday, signaling her return to the music scene. Titled “Dansons,” the new French-language ballad translates to “Let’s dance” in English. Accompanying the release is a romantic music video capturing affectionate scenes in Paris, showcasing different couples dancing freely in public spaces.
This new single precedes Dion’s upcoming series of 16 concerts at the Paris La Défense Arena from September 12 to October 17. Speculation about her comeback was confirmed with the appearance of mysterious signs in Paris featuring lyrics from her iconic songs like “My Heart Will Go On” and “The Power of Love.”
Having faced health challenges that led to the cancellation of her previous world tour, Dion’s return to the stage has been highly anticipated. “Dansons,” written by acclaimed songwriter Jean-Jacques Goldman, marks her first French release in over ten years and her first original song in a considerable period. The last time she released new music was in 2023 for the film “Love Again.”
Dion and Goldman have a history of successful collaborations, having previously worked together on projects like “Encore un soir” in 2016 and the groundbreaking 1995 album “D’eux,” which remains the top-selling French-language album of all time.
In 2023, Dion was compelled to cancel her Courage world tour after revealing her battle with stiff person syndrome, a rare neurological disorder affecting a very small portion of the population. Following the tour postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Dion made a triumphant return to the stage in July 2024 with a performance of Edith Piaf’s “Hymn to Love” at the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Paris, followed by another appearance at a fashion show in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, celebrating designer Elie Saab’s impressive 45-year career.
