“Women’s Pro Baseball League Unveils Inaugural Cities”

Date:

The Women’s Professional Baseball League revealed New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco as the chosen cities for the inaugural season’s four competing teams, as announced on Tuesday. Co-founded by Justine Siegal, the league, set to commence in 2026 with six teams, including a regular season, playoffs, and an all-star game, marks the first professional women’s league since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League disbanded in 1954, famously depicted in “A League of Their Own.”

The league will kick off with four teams, each comprising 15 players, following the selection of the top 100 players from the summer tryouts to participate in the upcoming league draft. Notable figures like Mo’ne Davis, Kelsie Whitmore from USA baseball, and Japanese pitcher Ayami Sato will also feature in the draft. All games in the WPBL’s inaugural season will be held at a neutral venue, with the locations to be disclosed later. The chosen cities were picked based on their market size and enthusiastic fan base.

Justine Siegal expressed excitement about engaging with fans in these renowned sports cities, stating, “Each of these cities are storied sports cities, and we can’t wait to connect with the fans who live there and baseball fans across the country.”
