“WestJet Flight Attendants Secure 18% Wage Hike in New Deal”

Date:

The union representing WestJet flight attendants has disclosed specifics of the tentative agreement made with the Calgary-based airline this week following a one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) announced that the deal involves an 18%+ wage increase spread over three years and introduces a new “duty period premium” to compensate for ground work. Additional benefits of the deal include extended time off, higher food and uniform allowances, and various other enhancements.

During a long holiday weekend, all WestJet flights in many parts of Canada were suspended as 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike, commencing the job action early on Sunday. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union on Monday morning, leading to a gradual resumption of WestJet operations back to normal levels.

The next step involves the cabin crew members voting on the agreement in the upcoming weeks, determining its final approval and implementation.
