Teva Canada is initiating a precautionary recall of two lots of Seasonique and one lot of Seasonale prescription birth control pills following a reported incident of a package missing an entire blister card of pills, according to Health Canada. The affected package was specific to Seasonique.
Health Canada emphasized that the missing pills could potentially heighten the risk of unintended pregnancy. The recall notice includes details such as the affected Drug Identification Number (DIN), lot numbers, and expiration dates.
Individuals with packages missing a blister card or pills are advised to return them to the pharmacy for a replacement or an alternative product. In cases where immediate access to a pharmacy is not possible, it is recommended to take the next pill in the correct sequence as indicated on the packaging until contacting a pharmacist.
For added precaution, Health Canada suggested using a non-hormonal backup contraception method like condoms if there are any concerns. Ensuring the pills are taken in the correct order, as instructed on the product label, is crucial for preventing unintended pregnancies. Missing a pill could result in unwanted pregnancy and potential side effects, such as spotting and irregular bleeding.
