A teenager from the Edmonton region is facing fresh allegations after being placed under a terrorism peace bond for suspected involvement in an online network promoting violent extremism. Initially detained in May, the 15-year-old was subjected to peace bond proceedings by the RCMP under fears of terrorism. Authorities expressed concerns that the youth was inclined towards committing terrorism-related offenses linked to the 764 online network. This network reportedly preys on susceptible children through gaming platforms like Minecraft and Roblox, enticing them into private online conversations.
The RCMP disclosed that the 764 network encourages youngsters to engage in sexual activities, self-harm, and cruelty towards animals. It was noted that certain segments of the network hold extreme ideological perspectives and are engaging in desensitizing and radicalizing children towards violent behaviors.
In a recent development, the police mentioned that the new charges stemmed from “escalatory behavior in a February 2025 incident.” A peace bond enables authorities to monitor individuals displaying potential criminal inclinations in the absence of concrete evidence of an actual offense.
The RCMP stated that the latest charges against the teenager were a result of a forensic analysis of the youth’s electronic devices. These charges include involvement in activities of a terrorist group, deliberate promotion of hatred, making threats, and possession of material related to child sexual abuse.
While the police have not released further details about the teenager due to legal constraints under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, it has been confirmed by CBC News in previous court appearances that the individual is male. The teenager remains in custody at the Edmonton Young Offender Centre and is set to appear in court on Friday.
