The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has expanded its recall of pistachios potentially contaminated with salmonella to include various products from Peace by Chocolate and NuttyHero brands. The recent recall announced on Friday encompasses Peace by Chocolate bars and assorted chocolates distributed throughout Canada, which were available for purchase individually or as part of a mixed pack. Affected items consist of Dubai Style Chocolate Pistachio and Kunafa Bar, The Peace Maker Specialty Bars, Trans Canada Trail — Peace Seeker, the Classic Box, the Proudly Canadian box, and assorted filled chocolates. Some Peace by Chocolate products with custom labels for companies like TD, Dexterra, First Onsite Property Restoration, and Tri-County Regional Centre for Education are also affected.
Additionally, NuttyHero nut and seed butters in maple cinnamon, coconut crunch, and chocolate bliss flavors have been added to the recall list by the food inspection agency. Numerous pistachios and pistachio-containing products have been recalled in Canada over the past few months due to salmonella concerns. Individuals who believe they have purchased recalled products are advised to discard them and seek medical attention if they experience any symptoms of illness. While salmonella-contaminated food may not exhibit obvious signs of spoilage, it can still cause sickness, with symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Vulnerable populations, such as young children, pregnant women, seniors, and individuals with compromised immune systems, are at higher risk of severe illness.
