“Newborn Baby Abandoned on Doorstep in Longueuil”

Date:

Longueuil authorities are on the lookout for an individual who abandoned a newborn baby boy on a doorstep late Sunday night. The incident occurred at approximately 11 p.m. ET when the perpetrator rang the doorbell and quickly departed. The residents of the Bourgeoys Street home immediately contacted emergency services upon discovering the infant swaddled in a blanket with the umbilical cord still attached.

Law enforcement officials and paramedics tended to the child, who was subsequently transported to the hospital and is reported to be in good condition. Mélanie Mercille, a spokesperson for the Longueuil police, disclosed that the baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks. Following tips from the public, investigators are conducting searches in Marguerite Bourgeoys Park, situated near the location where the newborn was left.

The park was closed to the public the next day as part of the ongoing investigation. Mercille refrained from revealing any details about the individual who abandoned the baby, emphasizing the rarity of such incidents in her 17-year policing career. Authorities plan to canvass the neighborhood on Monday in search of any surveillance footage that could aid in identifying the infant’s parents.

Additionally, forensic analyses will be conducted to assist in tracing the person responsible for abandoning the child.
