Date:

Netflix has exciting news for fans of steamy romances set in the world of sports. The popular streaming service announced on Monday that they will be adapting the bestselling book “Icebreaker” by English author Hannah Grace into a college romance drama series.

“Icebreaker,” published in 2022, follows the story of Anastasia Allen, an ambitious figure skater, and Nate Hawkins, the charismatic captain of the hockey team at the fictional University of California, Maple Hills campus. Their paths cross on the ice, leading to a passionate love story that captivated readers worldwide.

Described as a tale of ambition, discipline, and obsession, “Icebreaker” became a New York Times bestseller, selling nearly five million copies and being translated into 24 languages. Netflix expressed enthusiasm for bringing this captivating story to life on screen.

Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of scripted series for the U.S. and Canada, unveiled the new series at the Banff World Media Festival, highlighting Netflix’s track record of turning beloved romance novels into global hits. The announcement comes on the heels of the success of Crave’s “Heated Rivalry,” based on novels by Canadian author Rachel Reid, which received critical acclaim and recognition.

“Icebreaker” marks the beginning of a new chapter for Netflix, building on the popularity of sports romance books, particularly in the realm of hockey-themed stories. The show is set to join the ranks of other successful romance adaptations, promising to deliver a compelling narrative filled with love, passion, and drama.

With Amanda Lasher, known for her work on popular series like “Riverdale” and “Gossip Girl,” serving as the showrunner for “Icebreaker,” fans can expect a blend of steamy romance and engaging storytelling. The Maple Hills series, which includes “Wildfire” and “Daydream,” promises to transport viewers to the captivating world of romance and sports at the University of California campus.

As anticipation builds for the release of “Icebreaker,” fans of romance and drama can look forward to immersing themselves in a world where ambition, love, and desire collide on and off the ice.
