Montreal’s Felix Auger-Aliassime secured another championship by clinching the European Open title in Belgium over the weekend. The 25-year-old Canadian triumphed over Czech player Jiri Lehecka with a 7-6(2), 6-7(7), 6-2 victory in the ATP 250 tournament held on hard courts in Brussels.
Auger-Aliassime, seeded second in the competition, delivered an impressive performance, serving 17 aces during the intense two-hour and 34-minute match while dominating with a 79% first-serve points won. Despite losing the second set, Auger-Aliassime maintained control, converting two out of six break-point opportunities and denying Lehecka any chances to break his serve.
Reflecting on the match, Auger-Aliassime stated, “It’s the final, so we put everything on the line. I feel like we were both extremely focused from the beginning. It was a high level for two sets, then you don’t know how things can go. But I’m obviously glad.”
This victory marks Auger-Aliassime’s eighth career title and his third of the year, following his earlier wins in Montpellier, France, and Adelaide, Australia, in January 2025. With this achievement, he now shares the record for the most singles titles among Canadian male players in the Open era with Milos Raonic. Auger-Aliassime currently holds the 13th rank globally, a slight decrease from his previous position of 6th in November 2022.
