“Matthew Perry’s Ketamine Dealer Sentenced to 15 Years”

Date:

A woman who sold ketamine to actor Matthew Perry leading to his death in 2023 has been sentenced to 15 years in federal prison. The judge, Sherilyn Peace Garnett, emphasized the need for resilience as she handed down the sentence to Jasveen Sangha, who acknowledged her role in Perry’s death and her involvement in a drug-dealing operation.

Sangha, 42, received a sentence that surpasses the combined total expected for her four co-defendants. The sentencing marked a significant moment in the 2.5-year investigation and prosecution following the tragic overdose of the former “Friends” star, known for his role as Chandler Bing on the popular TV series.

Keith Morrison, Perry’s stepfather and a correspondent for NBC’s “Dateline,” expressed ongoing sorrow and sadness over Perry’s death, describing him as a unique individual with unrealized potential for more accomplishments.

Sangha, recognizing her actions, expressed remorse before the judge, acknowledging the devastating impact of her choices on people’s lives. Prosecutors portrayed her as a high-profile drug dealer, catering to affluent clients to sustain a lavish lifestyle.

Despite Sangha’s lawyers arguing for a lesser sentence due to her time served and lack of prior criminal record, the judge imposed the requested 15-year term. Perry’s death, attributed primarily to ketamine use, shed light on a series of convictions involving individuals connected to the distribution of the drug.

The judge sought to balance the sentences for the defendants, highlighting Sangha’s extensive drug operation and clientele as factors that warranted a harsher penalty. Family members of the victims expressed their pain and loss during the sentencing, underscoring the lasting impact of Sangha’s actions.

The court proceedings were attended by supporters of both sides, reflecting the emotional toll of the case. Despite the somber nature of the sentencing, the judge aimed to provide a sense of justice for the victim’s family amidst the ongoing tragedy.
