Lil Nas X Reveals Bipolar Diagnosis and Rehab Journey

Date:

Lil Nas X shared details about his bipolar disorder diagnosis and time in rehab on Instagram, following a previous incident involving charges by Los Angeles police officers last summer. He mentioned undergoing rehab, spending time with family, seeking therapy and medication, and teased new music on the horizon. The artist expressed optimism about his current state, emphasizing reduced fear and a newfound sense of creativity.

Although Lil Nas X did not directly address the Los Angeles charges in his social media post, reports indicated that the incident involved him wandering nearly naked down an L.A. street in August 2025 and later confronting responding police officers, resulting in injuries to three officers. After a brief jail stay, he was released on bond and pleaded not guilty to multiple felony charges.

Following the incident, Lil Nas X shared a video on Instagram expressing relief and humor amidst the challenging circumstances. Subsequently, a judge allowed him to participate in a mental health diversion program, with the possibility of having the charges dismissed if he adheres to the program for two years.

Lil Nas X, known for his controversial yet successful music career, gained fame with his hit “Old Town Road” in 2019, which sparked debates in the music industry. Despite facing challenges, including racial controversies and criticism within the country music genre, he achieved chart-topping success. His career has been marked by a mix of acclaim and backlash, with notable instances of controversy surrounding his public image and artistic expressions.

The artist’s provocative artistry, exemplified by projects like the “Satan shoes” campaign and devil-themed music videos, has often drawn criticism from conservative and religious groups. His work frequently delves into themes of personal identity and liberation, reflecting his upbringing in a religious household and his journey towards self-acceptance. Amidst ongoing projects and upcoming releases, Lil Nas X continues to navigate the complexities of fame, creativity, and personal growth in the public eye.
