“Justin Trudeau’s Son Makes TV Debut on ‘Son of a Critch’ Set”

Date:

Former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently visited the set of the popular CBC comedy series “Son of a Critch” along with his youngest son, who shares his father’s enthusiasm for the show. Fans might catch a glimpse of Hadrien Trudeau in Season 5, as creator Mark Critch revealed that the 12-year-old made a cameo appearance as an extra in a school scene.

During the visit, Critch humorously mentioned that he did not include the elder Trudeau in any scenes, playfully noting that they already had a drama teacher on set. Trudeau and his son are avid followers of the show, and Critch extended an invitation for them to visit the set in Newfoundland, where Hadrien participated as an extra.

Trudeau shared photos from the visit on his Instagram account, expressing gratitude for the experience and praising the show as quintessentially Canadian. The pair spent two days on set in St. John’s, meeting the cast and crew while Trudeau observed his son’s performance on the production monitors.

Hadrien’s engagement even impressed actor Malcolm McDowell, who plays Pops on the show, as he mentioned how the young Trudeau challenged him with trivia about his character’s teacup. British actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth, who portrays a young Critch, revealed that Hadrien discussed acting decisions, blocking, and background tips with him during their chat.

Critch and Trudeau have a history of collaboration, having appeared together on CBC’s political satire show “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.” The connection between Trudeau’s family and “Son of a Critch” was revealed when they attended Critch’s book launch in Ottawa, showcasing their mutual appreciation for the show.

Trudeau, a father of three, including Xavier and Ella-Grace, has seen his children pursue various interests. Xavier, known as Xav, ventured into music and released his debut R&B track titled “Til The Nights Done” in 2025, featuring vocals from his sister.
