John Tory, the previous mayor of Toronto, has been appointed as the new chair of the board of directors for the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Expressing his enthusiasm, Tory stated that he looks forward to collaborating with TIFF’s board, leaders, artists, filmmakers, and the wider community to shape the future direction of the festival.
Tory’s official tenure commences on October 1, as per a recent news release. This year’s festival is scheduled to take place from September 10 to 20. He takes over from Jeffrey Remedios, who held the position since 2021. Remedios commended TIFF and its leadership, expressing his enduring pride in contributing to the festival’s journey.
Additionally, TIFF announced the inclusion of three new members to its board of directors, namely Deborah Flint, David Furnish, and Daniel Tisch Echevarría. The organization also bid farewell to Asha Daniere, who served on the board for nine years, extending gratitude and recognition for her dedicated service and contributions.
