A documentary showcasing scientist Jane Goodall, created by Sudbury’s Science North, has secured four accolades from the Giant Screen Cinema Association (GSCA). Titled “Jane Goodall: Reasons for Hope,” the film tracks the journey of the renowned English zoologist and environmentalist as she spreads optimism about the future worldwide.
The GSCA recognized the documentary with awards for best film promoting lifelong learning, best short subject film, best theatrical premiere, and best concept. Director David Lickley expressed his admiration for Goodall, stating that collaborating with her was a remarkable experience for the entire team.
The film was a joint effort between Science North, the Jane Goodall Institute, the Arizona Science Center, and distributed by Cosmic Picture. Science North’s CEO, Ashley Larose, expressed immense pride in the team’s collaborative work being acknowledged on a significant platform, emphasizing the film’s ability to inspire hope and action.
Brenda Tremblay, the movie’s line producer and co-executive producer, noted the positive global reception the film has received since its debut in May 2023. Audiences have responded favorably to the uplifting and inspiring narrative, highlighting the positive impact individuals can have on the world.
Tremblay highlighted the film’s eco-friendly production approach, aligning with Goodall’s values by striving for carbon neutrality. This was achieved through measures such as minimizing air travel, utilizing batteries over generators, and offsetting carbon emissions. The electric vehicle company Rivian supported the production by supplying vehicles for equipment transportation, further enhancing the film’s sustainability efforts.
