Former NFL quarterback Mark Sanchez was attacked in an altercation in an Indianapolis alley by a 69-year-old truck driver, resulting in criminal charges against Sanchez, court records revealed on Sunday. The incident, captured on hotel video footage early Saturday, allegedly started when Sanchez approached the driver of a box truck at a hotel’s loading docks. The confrontation escalated, leading the driver to defensively pull out a knife, resulting in Sanchez sustaining stab wounds to his upper right torso.
Sanchez, who was hospitalized and reported to be in stable condition, faced charges including battery resulting in injury, unauthorized entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication – all misdemeanors. His court hearing was scheduled for the following Tuesday in Marion County.
According to police reports, the driver felt threatened by Sanchez’s actions and resorted to using pepper spray and a knife in self-defense. The driver and Sanchez engaged in a physical struggle, with Sanchez allegedly throwing the driver against a wall and to the ground. The driver, fearing for his life, stabbed Sanchez multiple times during the altercation.
Sanchez, known for his NFL career and current role as a Fox Sports analyst, was in Indianapolis for a game broadcast when the incident occurred. Fox Sports expressed support for Sanchez, and the prosecutor’s office stated they would investigate the matter thoroughly.
Sanchez, a former USC standout and NFL player, is married to actor Perry Mattfeld, and the couple recently welcomed twin daughters. The investigation into the altercation involving Sanchez and the truck driver is ongoing.
