Pop singer Chappell Roan announced on Monday that she has severed ties with the talent agency headed by Casey Wasserman, the leader of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, following scrutiny over his past interactions with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell. Wasserman has expressed regret for his communication with Maxwell after private emails between them were made public.
Recent disclosures from the U.S. Justice Department unveiled new documents related to the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, Maxwell’s former partner. Among these documents were flirtatious email exchanges from 2003 between Wasserman, who was married at the time, and Maxwell.
Taking to Instagram, Roan stated, “I am no longer under Wasserman’s representation as of today. Artists should have agents who uphold their values and prioritize their well-being. This decision reflects my belief that real change in our industry demands accountability and trustworthy leadership.”
Wasserman, known for his roles in sports and entertainment, has refuted any personal or professional association with Epstein. In his apology for his past ties to Maxwell, he clarified that these connections predated the revelation of her or Epstein’s criminal actions.
The talent agency led by Wasserman did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Monday. Meanwhile, Maxwell is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence following her 2021 conviction in New York on charges related to the sex trafficking of minors.
Maxwell’s arrest in 2020 stemmed from accusations by federal prosecutors accusing her of recruiting and grooming young girls for sexual activities with Epstein between 1994 and 2004. The release of numerous internal documents by the U.S. Justice Department concerning Epstein has shed light on his associations with various influential figures, both before and after his 2008 guilty plea to prostitution charges. Epstein’s demise in a Manhattan jail cell in 2019 was determined to be a suicide.
