Canada secured a spot in the final of the International Para Hockey Cup after a dominant 9-1 victory over Italy. Tyler McGregor from Forest, Ont., the team captain, led the charge with a hat trick and two assists. Auren Halbert from Calgary netted two goals and provided two assists, while veteran Greg Westlake from Oakville, Ont., scored his first goal for Canada since March 2022. Westlake, a five-time Paralympian and former team captain, returned to play after serving as an assistant coach for two years.
Contributions also came from James Dunn (Wallacetown, Ont.), Dominic Cozzolino (Mississauga, Ont.), and Micah Kovacevich (Edmonton) who all found the back of the net for Canada. Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) and Anton Jacobs-Webb (Gatineau, Que.) each contributed with three assists. Adam Kingsmill, hailing from Smithers, B.C., made six saves as Canada dominated Italy with a 35-7 shot advantage.
Canada is set to compete for the gold medal against either China or the United States on Sunday.
