Sokvin Vann found herself stuck in a routine nearly four years back. Encouraged by her brother, she turned to her passion for K-pop and BTS, a globally renowned boy band. Embracing her brother’s suggestion, Vann established BTS Army Toronto, a local fan club that organizes various activities and meet-ups to unite fans of the South Korean group.
Tragically, Vann’s brother passed away shortly after she launched BTS Army Toronto. Despite her grief, the 43-year-old persisted in growing the community, hosting numerous fan events, arranging giveaways and fundraisers, and advocating for local Korean businesses. As BTS prepares to return to Toronto for the first time in over a decade, the fan club is eagerly anticipating their arrival.
Vann, along with her 24-year-old son Jordan Vann and a dedicated team of about 10 individuals, has seen BTS Army Toronto evolve into a thriving hub. Reflecting on her journey, Vann expressed how the community has not only brought people together but has also enriched her life in unexpected ways.
As part of their Arirang World Tour, BTS will be performing sold-out shows at Rogers Stadium over the weekend. The City of Toronto recently unveiled BTS Boulevard on Yonge Street, adorned in red to match the tour’s branding, in honor of the upcoming concerts.
Notably, BTS Boulevard will remain in place until September 23, while the city has declared Saturday and Sunday as BTS Weekend in Toronto. Furthermore, the iconic Toronto sign at Nathan Phillips Square will be illuminated in purple, a color associated with BTS and its dedicated fanbase.
Known for their passionate following, BTS fans are deeply devoted to the band’s music and message, which often touches on themes like mental health, self-love, and personal growth. Vann emphasized the band’s commitment to creating meaningful music that resonates with listeners worldwide.
BTS’s stop in Toronto marks their only Canadian performance on their extensive world tour, spanning 88 shows in 34 cities across 23 countries until March 2027.
