Bruce Springsteen has released a new song titled “Streets of Minneapolis,” dedicated to the residents of Minneapolis and criticizing President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement activities in the city. The lyrics paint a vivid picture of a city in turmoil, facing challenges under what Springsteen refers to as “King Trump’s private army.”
Springsteen mentioned that he penned and recorded the song promptly, following a tragic incident involving federal immigration agents in Minneapolis. He specifically dedicated the song to the people of Minneapolis, highlighting the plight of innocent immigrant neighbors and paying tribute to the victims, Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
In response to the song, a spokesperson from the White House, Abigail Jackson, emphasized the administration’s focus on collaborating with state and local officials to enhance public safety by addressing criminal illegal immigration. The song’s arrangement starts with a simple acoustic guitar and vocals and gradually builds into a more elaborate band performance, featuring a harmonica solo and culminating in the chant “ICE Out!”
The lyrics express solidarity with Minneapolis, with Springsteen’s poignant vocals conveying a message of unity and resistance. The song title, reminiscent of Springsteen’s previous work “Streets of Philadelphia,” draws parallels between the two cities’ struggles. Springsteen’s critical stance towards President Trump is well-established, with past public disagreements between the two figures garnering attention.
The release of “Streets of Minneapolis” adds to Springsteen’s legacy of using music as a platform for social commentary and activism, resonating with audiences who appreciate his outspoken views on current affairs.
