Boyertown, PA Rallies Behind Local Hero in World Series

Date:

Boyertown, Pennsylvania, a town with a strong baseball tradition, is witnessing a shift towards supporting the Toronto Blue Jays as one of their own, Trey Yesavage, emerges as a standout player in the World Series.

Yesavage, a 22-year-old rookie pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays, hails from Pottstown, Pennsylvania, and grew up in Boyertown, where he played for his high school team under the guidance of coach Todd Moyer.

Moyer shared his observations with host Nil KÖ§ksal on “As It Happens,” mentioning the growing presence of Toronto Blue Jays fans in Pennsylvania, exemplified by the support shown through Yesavage’s success in the World Series.

Despite starting the season in the minor leagues, Yesavage has quickly won over Blue Jays fans, notably with his outstanding performance in Game 5 of the World Series where he set a record for the most strikeouts by a rookie in a post-season game by striking out 12 L.A. Dodgers players.

Reflecting on Yesavage’s journey, Moyer, a close family friend and former coach, expressed admiration for the young pitcher’s rapid rise in the baseball world, noting his exceptional talent and composure on the field. Moyer recalled significant moments from Yesavage’s high school career, highlighting his early signs of excellence as a pitcher.

As Yesavage continues to make waves in the baseball scene, Moyer remains optimistic about his future, hoping to see him bring home a World Series ring. The community in Boyertown, while traditionally loyal to other teams, has rallied behind Yesavage, showcasing their support for his remarkable achievements on the baseball diamond.
