Bo Bichette Returns as Blue Jays Make World Series Lineup Adjustments

Date:

The Toronto Blue Jays have included one of their top batters in the lineup for the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Bo Bichette, the shortstop who has been sidelined since September 6 due to a left knee sprain, was listed on the team’s 26-man roster for the best-of-seven series. The Blue Jays disclosed that Bichette will take on the role of second base and bat in the cleanup position just a few hours before the start of Game 1 at Rogers Centre on Friday night.

In addition to Bichette, outfielders Myles Straw and Davis Schneider earned starting positions, with Nathan Lukes, Addison Barger, and Isiah Kiner-Falefa available as bench options. Bichette showed progress in recent days by engaging in base running, defensive drills, and batting practice.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays also added Ty France to the 26-man list, removing reliever Yariel Rodriguez and outfielder Joey Loperfido. During a team workout, Bichette practiced at second base while Andres Gimenez, who typically plays second base, shifted to shortstop in Bichette’s absence.

Bichette expressed his readiness to contribute in any capacity needed by the team during a media day session on Thursday. Despite initial discomfort during base running before the American League Championship Series, Bichette exhibited improved comfort and form in his recent activities.

The Blue Jays opted for a roster composition of 14 position players and 12 pitchers for the Fall Classic, deviating from the 13-13 blend used in the ALCS. Bichette, a two-time American League hits leader, finished the past season with a .311 batting average, placing second to New York’s Aaron Judge.

Bichette emphasized his focus on supporting the team to the best of his abilities rather than being a hero, acknowledging his impending free agency at the end of the season. On the Dodgers’ side, additions of right-handers Edgardo Henriquez and Will Klein were made, with lefty Alex Vesia and righty Ben Casparius being dropped. Notably, veteran pitcher Clayton Kershaw, a three-time Cy Young winner, who had been excluded from earlier rosters, is set to participate in the World Series, with intentions to retire after this season.
