Ariana Grande has once again criticized the Trump administration for using her music in a social media post. This time, the Team Trump account shared a TikTok post featuring Grande’s song “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)” and tagged the Grammy-winning artist.
The post, uploaded by Trump’s team on Thursday, included clips of the president approaching a podium to speak, with text from Grande’s 2024 track overlaid on the video. Grande responded in the comments section, demanding that her music not be used again and calling out the inaccuracies in the post.
This incident follows Grande’s previous objection in mid-June when her song “Bye” was used in a TikTok video related to immigration policy. The pop star denounced the administration’s actions as “barbaric, inhumane, heinous nonsense.”
Joining a long list of artists who have criticized Trump’s team for using their music, Grande is currently wrapping up her Eternal Sunshine Tour in London. Various musicians, including Neil Young, John Fogerty, Queen, the Rolling Stones, ABBA, Beyoncé, and the estates of Leonard Cohen, Prince, and Tom Petty, have all voiced objections to the unauthorized use of their music by the Trump campaign.
Despite campaigns being able to obtain licensing packages to legally use music, individual artists have the right to opt out for various reasons. Some artists, like Taylor Swift and Bad Bunny, have taken swift action to have their music removed from Team Trump’s social videos through copyright infringement claims.
