“London Homeowner Faces Roof Repair Delays After Storm”

A homeowner in London is facing delays in repairing her damaged roof after a storm hit her neighborhood in April. Kirsten Smith’s house in the Byron area was struck by a severe storm that split a pine tree in her backyard, causing significant damage to her roof, windows, soffits, and eavestroughs.

Smith promptly contacted her insurance provider, TD Insurance, and was initially approved for coverage. She took immediate action by hiring a contractor to remove the fallen tree and install a temporary tarp on the roof for safety. The insurance company later sent their own contractor to assess the damage and start the repair process.

Despite the initial steps taken, Smith expressed frustration over the lack of progress in completing the repairs. She highlighted the absence of fencing repairs, eavestrough replacements, and water management solutions, with only temporary tarping done on the roof.

Over the past five months, Smith has been in constant communication with TD Insurance via phone and email, but encountered slow responses and actions from the company. She mentioned delays in receiving essential reports and quotes from the insurance-contracted engineer, causing disruptions to her daily life.

In response to the situation, TD Insurance acknowledged the delays and inconvenience faced by Smith, reaffirming their commitment to resolving the claim promptly. However, Smith expressed her disappointment in the prolonged process and the emergence of new issues due to the unfixed roof.

The uncovered roof led to raccoons entering her attic, resulting in additional expenses for removal and preventive measures. Furthermore, missing eavestroughs caused water pooling and subsequent flooding in the house, prompting concerns about structural integrity and the need for separate insurance claims.

The ongoing situation has forced Smith’s family to make significant adjustments, including relocating her son to a different room and implementing makeshift solutions to prevent further damage. The uncertainty surrounding the house’s condition during inclement weather has disrupted their daily routines and prevented them from taking vacations.

Smith emphasized the need for progress and support from TD Insurance, particularly with winter approaching, to ensure the house’s stability and safety.
