After over ten years of conducting interviews and engaging in light-hearted conversations with movie stars, musicians, and athletes over some fried chicken, Amelia Dimoldenberg, the host of the well-known YouTube talk show “Chicken Shop Date,” revealed this week that she is bringing the show to a close.
In an Instagram post shared on Thursday, Dimoldenberg expressed her fondness for the show, likening it to her personal romantic comedy filled with countless stories for viewers to enjoy. She thanked her followers for joining her on this journey and finding joy in the episodes.
Dimoldenberg, who initiated the show 12 years ago by interviewing musicians in the UK’s underground rap scene, has since expanded her guest list to include celebrities like Keke Palmer, Conan O’Brien, Paul McCartney, and Jack Harlow, amassing nearly 3.5 million subscribers on her YouTube channel.
“Chicken Shop Date” features Dimoldenberg going on casual “dates” with celebrities at fried chicken shops in London, asking a mix of flirty, humorous, and occasionally awkward questions. The format creates a playful banter more reminiscent of a first date than a traditional talk show interview, occasionally leading to moments of genuine flirtation, as seen in her encounter with Andrew Garfield.
Among her many interviews, Dimoldenberg has also hosted Canadians, such as Ryan Reynolds, who amusingly mixed up the character name from “Gossip Girl” played by his wife, Blake Lively, and Shania Twain, who admitted to never meeting Brad Pitt despite referencing him in her song “That Don’t Impress Me Much.”
Aside from her chicken shop adventures, Dimoldenberg’s YouTube success has opened doors for her, including reporting from the Oscars red carpet this year where she interviewed Hudson Williams, another Canadian.
While Dimoldenberg’s future plans post-“Chicken Shop Date” remain undisclosed, she is reportedly in the process of developing a young adult drama series for the BBC. In her farewell message on Instagram, she hinted at a few more final dates before bidding adieu to the show permanently.
