The Canadian-produced hockey drama series, “Heated Rivalry,” is adding more star power to its cast for the upcoming second season. Following its successful debut season of six episodes, the show gained global acclaim and saw the rise of its lead actors – Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, and François Arnaud. The latest additions to the cast, announced recently, include:
– Milla Jovovich, known for her roles in the “Resident Evil” franchise and “The Fifth Element.”
– Kevin Zegers, recognized for his work in “Gossip Girl” and films like “Transamerica.”
– Paul Gross, acclaimed for his roles in “Due South” and the films “Men With Brooms” and “Passchendaele,” which he also wrote and directed.
The series, inspired by Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” books, revolves around the clandestine romance between two rival hockey players, Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov. Paul Gross will portray hockey league commissioner Roger Crowell, while Kevin Zegers will take on the role of Coach Wiebe, head of the Ottawa Centaurs team that Rozanov plays for. Milla Jovovich will play Dr. Galina Molchalina, a therapist aiding Rozanov.
In addition to the new cast members, returning actors from Season 1 include Robbie G.K., Sophie Nélisse, Christina Chang, and Dylan Walsh. The show has also enlisted various Canadian talents for the upcoming season, such as Charlie Gillespie, Daniel Diemer, Emily Hampshire, and Priyanka.
Emily Hampshire, in an interview, expressed her close connection with series creator and director Jacob Tierney and her excitement for being part of the show. She noted the immense success of “Heated Rivalry,” comparing it to the popularity of “Schitt’s Creek,” which swept the comedy categories at the Emmy awards.
While “Heated Rivalry” has garnered critical acclaim, it is not eligible for this year’s Primetime Emmys. However, it achieved success at the Canadian Screen Awards, winning multiple awards. Production for the second season commenced on August 17, with the premiere scheduled for Spring 2027 on Crave.
