A toddler who was the subject of an Amber Alert has been located unharmed, but authorities are now searching for her father in connection with a deadly shooting in Brampton, Ontario. The Ontario Provincial Police issued the alert at 5 p.m., which was later rescinded approximately two hours later.
Constable Mandeep Khatra confirmed that the child had been safely found by the police and believed to have been handed over to relatives. However, the child’s 38-year-old father, who allegedly took her, is now wanted in relation to a woman’s fatal shooting earlier on the same day.
The tragic incident occurred in a plaza parking lot near Queen Street E. and Airport Road around 2 p.m., where the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect fled the location in a vehicle with the child in the back seat.
Describing the situation as potentially involving intimate partners, Khatra emphasized the urgency of locating the suspect, who remains at large. The suspect, described as a five-foot-nine, 175-pound male with a slim build, was last seen wearing a dark hoodie and blue jeans, carrying a black crossbody bag.
Authorities provided details about the suspect’s vehicle, a black 2024 Nissan Kicks with Quebec license plate FRV4520. The suspect was believed to have been in the Crystal Beach area of Fort Erie in the Niagara Region, with local residents advised to secure their homes. However, subsequent reports indicated that the suspect had left the area.
Police warned that the suspect is armed and dangerous, urging anyone who spots him to call 911 immediately without approaching him or the vehicle. Investigators are seeking assistance from individuals who may have been in the vicinity at the time of the incident and possess dashboard or surveillance footage or any relevant information to come forward and contact law enforcement.
