Atlético Ottawa secured a place in the Canadian Premier League final by rallying to a 2-1 victory over Forge FC on Sunday. The triumph at Hamilton Stadium in the CPL’s championship semifinal sets up a decisive match at TD Place on Nov. 9 for Atlético.
Despite finishing just two points behind Ottawa in the CPL table, Forge FC, the table-toppers, still have a chance to reach the final by winning the contender semifinal next weekend.
In the match on Sunday, Forge FC took the lead in the 23rd minute through a goal from David Choinière. However, Ottawa equalized ten minutes later courtesy of Gabriel Antinoro. Early in the second half, Atlético’s striker Sam Salter, who holds the CPL single-season goal-scoring record, sealed the victory with a header.
The two teams met four times in the regular season, ending in three draws and one win for Forge FC.
