U.S. artist Chris Brown admitted to an assault charge in London on Friday related to an incident at a nightclub three years ago. Brown, 37, and his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, 40, appeared at London’s Southwark Crown Court and entered guilty pleas for the incident at Tape nightclub in February 2023.
Initially facing severe assault charges, Brown and Akinlolu pleaded guilty to affray, acknowledging that they used or threatened violence against someone who would fear for their safety. The more serious charges were dropped, and the duo was granted bail until their sentencing on Oct. 26, with a possible maximum sentence of three years in prison.
According to Prosecutor Heidi Stonecliffe, the Crown Prosecution Service described the incident as a vicious and unprovoked attack by Brown, who allegedly used a glass bottle as a weapon. The prosecution emphasized that such violence is intolerable and that they will vigorously pursue cases like this to uphold the law.
The accusations included Brown’s alleged attack on the victim with a tequila bottle, followed by continued aggression by Akinlolu and Brown as the victim attempted to escape. Brown’s arrest in May 2025, upon his return to Britain, initially jeopardized his “Breezy Bowl XX” tour, but he was eventually released on bail after providing a substantial security fee, allowing the tour to proceed.
After the court appearance, Brown received cheers from fans chanting “Breezy! Breezy!” as he signed autographs and departed in a waiting vehicle.
