Seinfeld star Jason Alexander, aged 66, has issued a public apology to reality TV personality Courtney Stodden, aged 31, following her Instagram post accusing him of inappropriate behavior during a comedy sketch they worked on together when she was underage.
Stodden revealed that she was 17 years old when she and Alexander filmed a parody sketch for Funny or Die, mocking daytime talk shows like Dr. Phil. In the sketch, Alexander humorously used his cellphone on Stodden’s chest, citing it as the only spot with a good signal.
Sharing a screenshot of the 2012 sketch on Monday, Stodden expressed her confusion and discomfort over the incident. She detailed how Alexander repeatedly ran his phone over her chest, mentioning the “plenty of signal” there, and made suggestive remarks about her turning 18.
Stodden also pointed out that Alexander was credited as one of the writers of the sketch on IMDB, which she finds increasingly troubling. She reflected on the experience, emphasizing that it wasn’t comedy for her but a situation where her teenage self became the subject of inappropriate humor.
In response to the controversy, Alexander publicly apologized to Stodden, acknowledging the inappropriateness of their past collaboration. He expressed regret for any distress caused to Stodden and offered his sincerest apologies for his actions.
Stodden, known for marrying actor Doug Hutchison at 16, has since divorced and become an advocate against child marriage and exploitation of minors in the media. She highlighted the importance of protecting children through appropriate laws and speaking out against harmful practices in the industry.
