The 95-year-old renowned Canadian actor, famous for portraying Captain James T. Kirk in “Star Trek,” revealed to People magazine that he encountered his most difficult battle off-screen when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 malignant melanoma in June 2023, which had spread to his lungs and brain. Around the same time, Gretsch, aged 61, detected a lump in her breast, leading to a diagnosis of her own.
Despite undergoing chemotherapy, Gretsch vividly remembers seeking solace from her father, who promptly comforted her by assuring her that this challenge would be just a temporary setback. Shatner detailed his own treatment journey, which involved surgery to remove a facial tumor followed by two years of immunotherapy to combat the cancer in his lungs and brain.
