A bear with a stove pipe stuck on its head was rescued by conservation officers in Oliver, B.C. Curtis Pirie spotted the bear while cycling and tried to remove the pipe with a neighbor. When the attempt failed, they called the B.C. Conservation Officer Service.
After tranquilizing the bear, it climbed a tree and had to be coaxed down with a pole. The officers successfully removed the pipe from the bear’s head. The bear had been wandering for 10 days with the pipe stuck, causing concern about its health.
Sgt. James Zucchelli mentioned that the bear appeared thin but was still in good condition. The bear was relocated back into the woods near Oliver. This incident serves as a reminder to keep attractants away and report animals in distress to the conservation service promptly.
