“MusiquePlus Revival: French Music Icon Returns with TikTok Twist”

Date:

Quebec culture once relied on MusiquePlus as a trendsetter long before online feeds recommended music choices. The iconic glass studio at Ste-Catherine and Bleury in Montreal with enthusiastic fans outside, charismatic VJs on cable screens, and music videos shaping CD playlists is etched in nostalgia. Now, in an exciting development, MusiquePlus is making a comeback with a fresh twist, partnering exclusively with TikTok.

In a recent video announcement, MusiquePlus emphasized continuity with a “New generation, same DNA” message. This move echoes MuchMusic’s successful integration into TikTok in 2021, amassing over five million followers on the platform. The channel’s rebirth will feature a new crop of VJs and creators, spotlighting music, culture, and entertainment while amplifying Quebec’s creative community.

Originally launched in 1986, MusiquePlus was a launchpad for Quebec stars like Véronique Cloutier, Geneviève Borne, and Claude Rajotte. Notable moments included broadcasting Celine Dion’s transition to English music with “Unison” in 1990. Despite its closure in 2019 and replacement with Elle Fictions, the channel’s revival aims to rekindle its legacy of championing the French-speaking music scene for a modern audience.

Maxime Rémillard, president of Remstar Media, expressed enthusiasm for reviving MusiquePlus, citing its significance in Quebec’s cultural heritage. The decision to relaunch on TikTok aligns with the app’s growing influence in the music industry, where artists like Tate McRae and the Beaches found breakthrough success.

Production for MusiquePlus’s revival involves collaboration with Attraction, Motion Entertainment, and Remstar, focusing on honoring the channel’s legacy while catering to contemporary tastes. The new VJs, aged 20 to 35, will bring a fresh perspective to the platform, leveraging their social media savvy to engage with audiences effectively. Stay tuned for the official launch on June 11 to meet the new faces of MusiquePlus.

With a nod to the past and a vision for the future, MusiquePlus’s return on TikTok signals a vibrant resurgence of Quebec’s music and entertainment scene.
