“Cricket Canada CEO Suspended Amid Fraud Allegations”

Date:

Cricket Canada has announced the immediate suspension of its chief executive officer, Salman Khan, while maintaining his full pay and benefits. The decision, as stated by Cricket Canada president Amjad Bajwa, is a precautionary measure to uphold the organization’s integrity and ensure fairness in procedures. Khan, along with another individual, faced charges of theft and fraud exceeding $5,000 related to their involvement with the Calgary and District Cricket League. Khan denied the allegations, emphasizing their baselessness and expressing readiness to defend his innocence.

Bajwa highlighted the suspension as a response to the negative impact associated with Khan, although emphasizing that the charges remain unproven in court. Cricket Canada disclosed the formation of an independent special committee, in collaboration with the executive committee and external legal advisors, to conduct a thorough review, without specifying the scope of the review. The organization reaffirmed its dedication to its vision, mission, players, and the wider Canadian cricket community.

Additionally, Cricket Canada recently faced a suspension from the Canadian Safe Sport Program due to non-compliance with participant e-learning and consent regulations. However, the Canadian Centre for Ethics in Sport reinstated Cricket Canada after confirming compliance with the program requirements.
