“Blue Jays Set to Face Mariners in ALCS”

Date:

The Blue Jays have reached the post-season 11 times in their almost 50-year history, including this year. Starting this Sunday, they will face off against the Seattle Mariners in the American League Championship Series (ALCS), a stage they last reached in 2016 after defeating the New York Yankees in the American League Division Series (ALDS).

Throughout their history, the Blue Jays have made it to the ALCS seven times, in 1985, 1989, from 1991 to 1993, and in 2015 and 2016. In their first ALCS appearance in 1985, the Blue Jays won 99 regular-season games and faced the Kansas City Royals, who ultimately emerged victorious and went on to win the World Series.

In 1989, with 89 wins, the Blue Jays secured the division title but only managed to win one game against the Oakland Athletics in the ALCS, who later swept the San Francisco Giants in the World Series. The following year, despite a 91-win campaign, Toronto fell short in the ALCS against the Minnesota Twins, who later became champions.

The highlight of the Blue Jays’ history came in 1992 and 1993 when they won back-to-back World Series championships. In 1992, with 96 wins, they defeated the Oakland Athletics in the ALCS and went on to beat the Atlanta Braves to claim their first MLB title. The following year, the Blue Jays won 95 games, secured their second consecutive ALCS victory against the Chicago White Sox, and clinched another World Series title by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies.

After more than two decades, the Blue Jays returned to the post-season in 2015, led by José Bautista, but lost the ALCS to the Kansas City Royals. In 2016, despite winning 89 games and sweeping the Texas Rangers in the ALDS, they fell to the Cleveland Indians in the ALCS, who were later beaten by the Chicago Cubs in the World Series.
