“Police Seek Person of Interest in Abandoned Baby Case”

Date:

Longueuil police have unveiled surveillance footage in a bid to identify a person of interest connected to a newborn baby abandoned on a doorstep over the weekend. The Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL) shared video footage on Tuesday showing an individual carrying something while walking along a sidewalk. According to Jacqueline Pierre, the SPAL spokesperson, the person seems to be holding the baby in their arms in the footage.

Pierre emphasized that this individual may possess crucial information that could aid in locating the baby’s parents. The incident occurred on Sunday around 11 p.m. ET when someone rang the doorbell of a residence on Bourgeoys Street and promptly left. Subsequently, the residents discovered a newborn wrapped in a blanket with the umbilical cord still attached and promptly contacted emergency services.

Upon arrival, the police and paramedics provided medical attention to the infant, who was then transported to the hospital and determined to be in good health. Longueuil police announced on Monday their search for the person responsible for leaving the baby on the doorstep.

In a proactive measure, authorities stated they would canvass the area to collect any potentially helpful surveillance footage from locals. Pierre urged anyone who recognizes the individual in the video to reach out to the police. Additionally, during a press conference, Pierre extended a message to the parents, expressing understanding for the challenging situation they are likely facing and emphasizing that their well-being is a top priority for law enforcement.

Mélanie Mercille, another SPAL spokesperson, disclosed that the baby was born prematurely at 34 weeks. She also mentioned that tips from the public led investigators to search Marguerite Bourgeoys Park, situated near the residence where the baby was discovered, resulting in the closure of the park to the public on Monday.
