“Probe Launched into Controversial Moose Jaw Health Center”

Date:

Saskatchewan’s Minister of Health has requested an investigation into a controversial health center in Moose Jaw following concerns raised in a recent CBC report. The facility, known as the Dr. Goodenowe Restorative Health Center, claims to have a 100% success rate in treating ALS, a degenerative muscle disease, despite not being operated by a medical doctor. The Ministry of Health has expressed worries about potential harm to patients and has urged the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan to launch a formal inquiry.

Moreover, the Opposition NDP has called for a criminal investigation into the Goodenowe center, citing issues raised in the CBC story about a former patient, Susie Silvestri, who passed away after seeking treatment at the facility. The American woman had paid a significant sum for the program but eventually had to seek urgent medical care in the U.S. due to her deteriorating health.

In response to these developments, the Health Minister has also involved the Financial and Consumer Affairs Authority of Saskatchewan to examine the concerns surrounding the center’s practices. The Minister highlighted discrepancies between the services advertised by the facility and the actual outcomes experienced by clients. Additionally, concerns have been raised about Dayan Goodenowe not being a medical doctor and still offering medical treatments at the center.

Efforts are underway to scrutinize the Goodenowe center’s operations and ensure compliance with regulatory standards, given the serious implications for patient safety and consumer protection. The government has emphasized the need for accurate representation of services and the importance of regulatory bodies like the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Saskatchewan in overseeing such healthcare practices.
